Our Funeral Services
We offer a complete Islamic funeral service to help families fulfil their religious obligations with ease and dignity. Our dedicated team ensures that every step is handled with care and respect.
Our services include:

Ghusl (Ritual Washing) – Performed by trained brothers and sisters in accordance with Islamic principles.

Kafan (Shrouding) – Provision and preparation of the burial shroud.

Janazah Prayer (Funeral Prayer) – Conducted at the mosque or an appropriate location.

Burial Arrangements – Assistance with cemetery coordination and transportation.

Family Guidance & Support – Emotional, spiritual, and practical advice throughout the process.
Our Facilities Include:
- A dedicated ghusl area
- A private family viewing area
- On-site car parking for funeral attendees
- Full coordination by our funeral directors, including paperwork, liaison with cemeteries, and transportation arrangements
- Cold storage facilities
- A large prayer space for the Janazah (funeral) prayer
- A viewing facility for funeral prayer attendees
- Support and guidance from qualified Imams and volunteers during all stages of the funeral

Funeral: Step-by-Step
Below is a straightforward, numbered step-by-step guide outlining what typically happens and how Jami Mosque & Islamic Centre Birmingham will support you throughout the process.
Notifying the Mosque
Once a death has occurred, please contact the Mosque’s Funeral Services Team as soon as possible. Our team will provide advice, assistance, and help you arrange the next steps in accordance with Islamic guidance.
When contacting us, please have the following information available:
Deceased’s full name, date of birth, home address, place and time of death, next of kin’s name and mobile number.

Medical Formalities & Registration
(Cause of Death & Death Certificates)
The hospital or GP will issue a medical certificate showing the cause of death if appropriate.
If the death has been referred to the coroner, you will be advised of any additional steps required.
You must register the death with your local register office before burial can take place. Our team can explain this process and direct you to the correct office.
(Please note: We can guide you through the paperwork, but legal registration must be completed by the family.)
Preparing the Body — Ghusl & Burial Booking
Once formalities are complete, arrangements can be made for:

Ghusl (ritual washing) at the mosque or an approved facility

Burial booking with the relevant cemetery
The ghusl is performed by trained volunteers. Family members may also join in the washing.
Kafan (Shrouding)
After the ghusl, the deceased is respectfully shrouded in the traditional kafan. The mosque can provide the shroud or, if preferred, the family may supply their own.
Janazah (Funeral Prayer)
The Janazah prayer is performed at the mosque or another agreed location.
Transport and Burial
We will coordinate transportation of the deceased to the chosen cemetery and work closely with our funeral director to ensure all arrangements are made smoothly.
Visiting the Graveyard
If the family wishes, the mosque can arrange for an Imam to accompany the family during the burial.
