Our Journey Through Time
From a single building to a growing community complex
What began at 523 Coventry Road in 1973 grew, through the acquisition and development of neighbouring properties, into a comprehensive religious, educational and community complex.
- 1972–73
First community meetings held; 523 Coventry Road acquired and opened as the first Masjid.
- 1979
525 Coventry Road registered in JMIC's name.
- 1983
Five Daily Prayers Hall developed.
- 1983–86
Properties at 517–521 and 527 Coventry Road acquired.
- 1985–86
Lloyd Street car park and 11 Lloyd Street acquired.
- 1986–87
Basement, ablution facilities, community and prayer halls developed.
- 1987
Lozells Islamic Centre property acquired.
- 1999
505–515 Coventry Road purchased.
- 2007
Darul Uloom relocated to renovated 505–511 Coventry Road premises.
- 2011
Al Miraj Banqueting Suite acquired.
- 2017–18
Al Miraj and Darul Uloom facilities upgraded.
- 2020–23
Sisters' prayer hall, wudhu facilities and 15ABC Lloyd Street properties renovated.
- 2025–26
Funeral area renovated and rental properties acquired.

From essential religious services in 1973 to a comprehensive Islamic and community institution, meeting the spiritual, educational and social needs of individuals and families.

Congregational prayers and religious services began.

Evening Maktab established.

Hifz Madrasah established.
- 1981
Official marriage registration.
- 1985
Darul Uloom Islamic High School established.
- 1987
Islamic Bookshop opened.
- 1992
Adult Islamic education and boarding hostel established.
- 1995
Islamic Funeral Service established.
- 1995–2003
Girls' Madrasah operated.
- 1998
Radio scanner broadcast introduced.
- 2020–21
Services adapted during COVID-19; Jami'ah Darul Uloom established.
- 2025
Masjid Waqf Fund established.
- Today
Over 25 religious, educational and community services.

Everything you see today stands on the dedication of our founders, imams, scholars, trustees, staff and countless volunteers and donors over five decades.
We especially remember Dr Mw Abdur Rahim, founder and principal of Darul Uloom Islamic High School, who passed away in August 2016.
May Allah accept their efforts and reward them abundantly. Ameen.
