Religious Service

Established in 1973 by prominent members of Birmingham's muslim community, JMIC has since grown into a vital religious and community hub. Located on Coventry Road, the mosque includes two large prayer halls, with a capacity of up to 1,000 people, and a dedicated prayer space for sisters. JMIC provides religious services throughout the year, including daily prayers, special prayers for Ramadan and Eid, and religious guidance.

Daily & Jumuah Prayers

Jami Mosque & Islamic Centre (JMIC) is recognised for its facilities for congregations of males and females. The mosque is open to everyone throughout the year for individual and collective prayers. People attend to offer the five daily prayers and Friday (Jumuah) prayers.
The five daily prayers are conducted all year round as they are the core function of the mosque. The daily congregations are attended by an average of 1,500 people. The average attendance for Friday prayers (Jumu‘ah) is generally over 1,200, rising to almost 2,000 on the busiest Fridays and during holiday periods. Our weekly footfall is usually over 12,000, which doubles during the month of Ramadan.

Ramadan & Eid

Ramadan is a holy month for Muslims, and during this time, the number of mosque service users and congregants doubles compared to other months, with around 20,000 visitors. Throughout the month of Ramadan, 20 Rakat taraweeh prayers are arranged in two congregations, early and late at night. Many sisters also attend during the night for Taraweeh prayers. The taraweeh prayers are led by our Imams, current and former students of Darul Uloom and Raheem Academy. An average of 1,000 people attend both taraweeh prayers.

One of the extraordinary daily scenarios during Ramadan is the iftar arrangement for the community. The mosque iftar gatherings are attended by an average of 150 people daily, reaching 500 people on some occasions. JMIC also arranges Itikaf facilities for its users, with around 30 people staying in the mosque during the last 10 days of Ramadan.

JMIC hosts two big Eid gatherings in the Darul Uloom playground for Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha. Facilities are provided for both men and women during Eid, creating a very welcoming atmosphere. The estimated total attendance at the Eid prayer is around 7,000 people.

Khutbah & Lectures

Our Friday khutbahs (sermons) are delivered by our Imams, Shaykh Mohammad Shahid Ullah Azhari (Head Imam) and Shaykh Habibul Gaffar Azhari (Senior Imam & Khateeb). The khutbahs are given in Arabic and English, with translations available in Bengali or Urdu when needed. Additionally, JMIC offers Dars Quran, Hadith Taleem, and Nasiha talks after Zuhr Salah (noon prayer) every day, providing ongoing spiritual learning for our community.

Islam Awareness Project (IAP)

JMIC promotes understanding and unity through the Islam Awareness Project (IAP):

Mosque Open Day: Welcoming around 30 non-Muslim visitors annually for exhibitions, tours, and Q&A sessions.
Free Quran Distribution: Distributing 300 Qurans to non-Muslims each year.
Islam Embracing Service: Supporting 6–7 new Muslims annually with guidance, resources, and a gift pack to begin their journey.

Religious Counselling & Advice

Our Mosque Surgery provides vital support to individuals and families, with approximately 200 cases addressed annually. We offer religious counselling, guidance, and assistance to those in need. Please Contact our office to learn more about this service.

Educational Services

We have a longstanding tradition of offering Islamic education, including our evening maktab, established in 1975, and Hifz madrasa, launched in 1978. Our full-time Darul Uloom boys' secondary school opened in 1985, and we have been providing Islamic education for adults since 1992.
