About Us
Jami Mosque & Islamic Centre Birmingham (JMIC) has been a cornerstone of the community since 1973, dedicated to providing excellence in Islamic worship and education. The Centre offers daily congregational prayers and regular religious services to meet the spiritual needs of its diverse congregation.
As an educational hub, JMIC runs a full-time High School, a Maktab for primary Islamic education, and a Jamiah offering the Alimiya course alongside A-levels. We also deliver adult education programs, fostering lifelong learning and spiritual development for all ages. With facilities accommodating over 1,500 worshippers and a dedicated prayer space for sisters, JMIC continues to serve as a beacon of faith and knowledge in Birmingham.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the daily congregational prayers and Friday Jumu’ah prayers.
- Deliver inspiring Khutbahs and lectures in English and Arabic.
- Teach Qur’an (recitation with Tajweed), Islamic studies, and provide religious education to children, youth, and adults.
- Offer pastoral care and counselling to community members.
- Support and organise religious events, educational programs, and community outreach initiatives.
- Represent the mosque in interfaith and community engagement activities.
Person Specification
Essential Requirements
- Formal Islamic education from a recognised institution.
- Strong understanding of Islamic theology, Fiqh, and contemporary issues.
- Hafidh of the Qur’an with excellent recitation (Tajweed) preferred.
- Prior experience as an Imam or in a similar religious leadership role.
- Fluent in English and Arabic (additional languages such as Urdu/Punjabi are beneficial).
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and teaching skills.
Desirable Attributes
- Experience in youth engagement and community outreach.
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multicultural team.
- Knowledge of safeguarding procedures and a commitment to maintaining high standards of care.
